Gamification - Does it work?

Image
Have you been wondering if Gamification is just a buzz word or if it really does work?Having successfully implemented a gamification platform with a top MNC bank, I can tell you for sure, it does!   I have seen some amazing performance transformations and engagement levels in the journey, change in water cooler conversations from idle gossip to winning points and badges, child prodding his mother to perform better so that she could bring in home a master blaster badge, one employee even changed his mind about quitting. Having said that, there have been some learnings. If you are in the midst of a roll-out or are planning to bring in gamification into your organisation, I would urge you to keep the following aspects in mind.I call them the 'Ethos of Gamification'. Amplification of Organizational Performance & Individual Outcomes using Gamification - A Case Study

When do you give your best performance at the workplace? Well, answers vary – some people need a deadline looming over them, others drink lots of coffee and a few, incentivized by hefty bonuses. If you really think about it, all of these cause stress. We have trained ourselves to perform in a state of stress and it is popularly perceived as a positive trait among many working professionals. Whilst it might be for some, it leaves a bulk of the workforce at the performance level that is less than the best to put it mildly. Disengagement in the new norm? In the recent past, the work culture, designed and applied in a rigid goal-oriented manner has struggled to keep pace with the speed of change. Changing technology, rapidly evolving market ecosystem and most importantly, the radically shifting thought process and behaviors of the generation coming into the work force today, the GenZ.  This is resulting in a lack of culture of engagement, leading to increasing attriti...

Gamification – A game changer in the new norm!

As the world starts slowly, to emerge from the COVID 19 pandemic, never before has the need for sustained behaviour change and engagement to amplify individual performance and organization outcomes been as critical as it is today.   Social distancing, work from home, lesser in person contact, increased reliance on technology etc. will become the standard norm in our daily lives, professionally or personally. This is a natural generational transition that was already happening, albeit slowly. The COVID 19 pandemic has just shrunk the timelines and brought it into the immediate timescales. Moreover, this is happening to a world that is still not completely prepared to handle the new norm, emotionally, socially and from an infrastructural perspective. We have to make significant changes to every aspect of our lives to accept and deal with the new norm. This includes the very social fabric of how we live, interact and engage with each other. We are faced with a sudden and major ...
